Sherry Waters and Connie Volkman, two artists working with fiber, will show some of their works during an exhibit at Larksfield Place Gallery, beginning today. Here are the details:
1) The duo has about 60 pieces in the new show, called " Fiberscapes." An opening reception will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Larksfield Place, 7373 E. 29th St. N. Admission is free. All works will be for sale, and the exhibit will be up through December.
2) Waters first learned the techniques of making fiber art from well-known Wichita artist Marilyn Grisham. "I loved what she was doing with fiber fusion," says the former teacher. "It's creating with threads what you do with paint, so instead of using a brush you're cutting threads and creating a composition that way. It's very tactile."
3) This is Waters' first show in four years. Many of her fiber works are of colorful, majestic trees and landscapes. She also has submitted oil and glass pieces for the show.
