Everyone loves a classic show car that has been lavished with the owner’s time, money, creativity and skills. We all treat these machines with respect and deference when they are on display at a show, with spotlights and mirrors highlighting all their key features.

Last week we featured the Bob Tyler/Patterson Racing COPO Camaro, which was being prepped to set an NHRA national record in CC/SA. A MoPar had just lowered the record to 9.44 seconds back east shortly before the COPO launched its assault at the SRCA drag strip at Great Bend.

Allan Patterson vividly remembers his first day of competition at the Sunflower Rod and Custom Association drag strip in Great Bend. It was back in 1960, before he had an unrestricted driver’s license, so he had to have his ’40 Sedan towed to the track by his cousin, whose new car broke down in the process.
Well, it didn’t take long for Wheels readers to nail the quiz question I posed last week about the 1925 Bugatti in the lake in Switzerland. John Masters of Wichita was the first of more than 20 people to submit the correct answer early last Saturday morning.
