WICHITA — General aviation shipments are down 47 percent and billings down 24 percent in the first nine months of the year, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association reported today.
In the first three quarters of 2009, total general aviation shipments fell to 1,587 from 2,982 in 2008. Total industry billings were $13.8 billion, down from $18 billion.
"These shipment and billings figures are a result of this difficult business cycle and reflects the impact of the weak economy," GAMA president and CEO Pete Bunce said in a release.
Business jet shipments were down 37.8 percent, at 615 units from 988 a year ago. There were 679 piston-powered airplane shipments compared with 1,646 a year ago, a 58.7 percent decrease. Turboprop shipments decreased 15.8 percent to 293 from 348.
