Harvest of state's row crops lagging

Harvest of Kansas' fall row crops continues to lag behind because of weather conditions, according to a report by the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service.

Milo has been the hardest hit with only 17 percent of the crop harvested going into the week. The five-year average for this time of year is 59 percent.

The corn harvest is only 52 percent completed, well behind the five-year average of 86 percent. Fifty-five percent of the soybeans have been harvested, 23 percentage points behind the five-year average of 78 percent.

In south central Kansas, 65 percent of the corn, 17 percent of the milo and 62 percent of the soybeans have been harvested.

Below-average temperatures and wet fields have delayed the harvest.

Snow and rain have also kept planting of winter wheat behind schedule. Eighty-three percent was in the ground, down from the five-year average of 94 percent.
