General aviation deliveries down 47%

Deliveries of general aviation aircraft have fallen 47 percent in the first nine months of 2009 when compared with the same time a year ago.

Planemakers worldwide shipped 1,587 piston aircraft, turboprops and business jets in the first nine months, down from 2,982 a year ago, according to figures released Thursday from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.

Billings, meanwhile, are down 23.5 percent.

Piston aircraft deliveries in the nine months have fallen the most this year, with a 59 percent drop.

Turboprop deliveries declined 16 percent, and business jet deliveries fell 38 percent.

In the third quarter, manufacturers shipped 548 aircraft, down from 1,058 a year ago.

Wichita's Cessna Aircraft, Hawker Beechcraft and Bombardier Learjet delivered 47 percent of all aircraft worldwide.

Cessna Aircraft delivered 191 civil aircraft in the quarter, down from 366 a year ago.

Hawker Beechcraft delivered 57 civil aircraft in the quarter, down from 84 a year ago.

Bombardier Aerospace delivered 10 Learjet business jets in the quarter, down from 19 a year ago.
