Craig Anderson's new appointment at UMB Bank could eventually mean a change of residence for the Wichita bank executive, but not now.
"At this point there's going to be no changes" to where his office is, he said this week. But a move "could happen a year or so from now."
He is based out of the bank's main Wichita branch at 130 N. Market.
Last week Anderson, a 24-year veteran of UMB, was promoted to president of regional banking for UMB Financial, the bank's holding company.
In his new role, he'll have oversight of the $8.3 billion bank's operations in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri (excluding Kansas City), Oklahoma and Kansas.
Prior to the promotion, Anderson was in charge of the bank's operations in Kansas and Oklahoma.
So he's gone from oversight of 24 branches in two states to about 80 in five.
"It is a terrific opportunity for me," Anderson said. "This significantly expands my operating responsibilities across the footprint. It's a large territory to cover."
He said in the new role that he'll continue to report to Mariner Kemper, UMB Financial chairman and CEO.
Anderson will also spend a lot of time on the road.
"I will spend a large percentage of my time traveling to these various markets," he said, adding that he will strive to be "involved with our commercial customers" in the Wichita area.
Anderson will have six chairmen and CEOs of the regions under his purview reporting to him.
One of them will be Bill Watson, who was promoted to chairman and CEO of the bank's Kansas region.
Watson, CEO of the former Union National Bank who has been with UMB for five years, now will focus on all aspects of the bank's business in the state, including consumer banking. Watson previously focused on the commercial banking operations.
"I'll have a broader scope of responsibilities," said Watson, who was the Kansas region president prior to the promotion.
