The Kansas Aviation Museum's annual gala Saturday will recognize the Ninety-Nines, an international association of female pilots, along with Kansans who have made a difference in aviation.
Emily Warner, the nation's first female airline pilot, is the keynote speaker at Saturday's event.
Norman Colvin, who spent years helping owners of Beechcraft Bonanzas keep their planes in top flying condition, will be posthumously inducted into the Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame.
Paul Fortin, who brought his knowledge of aviation to young people around the state, will be the first of two recipients of the Kansas Governor's Aviation Award.
The second award will go to the Kansas Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an association of female pilots. The Ninety-Nines is celebrating the 80th anniversary since it was founded in Long Island, N.Y., and named for 99 charter members. Amelia Earhart was its first president.
The event will recognize the Sept. 9 KC-135 refueling mission mounted by the 22nd Air Refueling Wing of McConnell Air Force Base in which the ground crew and air crew were all female.
The Kansas Aviation Museum and the aviation division of the Kansas Department of Transportation are sponsoring the event.
