Top BTK investigator receives award

Lt. Ken Landwehr, who headed the BTK strangler investigation, was named officer of the year Wednesday by the Wichita Police Department.

The investigation culminated in the Feb. 25 arrest of Dennis Rader, who later pleaded guilty to 10 counts of first-degree murder.

Landwehr devoted countless hours to the investigation and had "the unique ability to organize a sizable task force, allocate resources, plan strategically and communicate with the public during a time of intense pressure and public scrutiny," according to a news release.

He will be honored at a reception at City Hall next week.
