Are the Detroit Lions close to the record for longest losing streak yet?
If the Lions (0-2) lose today to Washington, they will be the sole owners of the second-longest losing streak in NFL history.
At 19 games, dating to 2007, Detroit's streak is tied with the Chicago Cardinals in the 1940s and the Oakland Raiders from 1961-62 for second place right now.
The record of 26 losses is Tampa Bay's in its first 26 games as a franchise in 1976 and '77.
Including ties, there are two franchises which went winless for 23 games: Rochester in 1922-25, and Washington in 1960-61.
I know 0-2 teams have a bad time reaching the NFL playoffs, but have any 0-3 teams made it?
In the current playoff format (since 1990) 22 0-2 teams have reached the playoffs, including three last year: Miami, Minnesota and San Diego.
Starting 0-3 is a much more difficult trick. Only three teams in that span _ 1992 Chargers, 1995 Lions and 1998 Bills _ made the playoffs. The Chargers were 0-4 before turning the season around.
