ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Emily Stockman has been named WSU Athlete of the Week for leading the Shockers to a 2-0 weekend with road wins over Southern Illinois and Evansville. Stockman posted double-doubles in both matches with 12 kills and 19 digs at SIU and 19 kills and 14 digs at Evansville.

KCAC football: McPherson linebacker Jeff Paulson was named the defensive player of the week after posting 10 tackles in a win over Bethel.

KCAC volleyball: Tabor College's Tina Frick was named hitter of the week and teammate Mandi Phillips was named setter of the week. Sterling's Kelsey Deerinwater was the libero/defensive specialist of the week.

TENNIS

Wichita State women's player Delia Damaschin rolled to a 5-0 record at the North Texas Classic in Denton, Texas. Damaschin, the only Shocker at the tournament, competed with Texas-Arlington's Maria Martinez in doubles and went 2-0, then went 3-0 in singles play.

FENCING

Leo Kust finished eighth at the North American Cup Tournament in Kansas City over the weekend, competing for the Wichita Fencing Academy in the under-20 age category.

FOOTBALL

North football coach Tom Beason has resigned, athletic director Lance Deckinger wrote in a statement. Beason had coached the Redskins for three seasons and was 6-22, including 2-7 this season.

* Former New York Giants great Lawrence Taylor was arrested Sunday night for leaving the scene of a crash in Miami-Dade County, according to jail records.

Taylor, 50, was booked into jail at 9:57 p.m. EST and released a short time later on $500 bond.

The crash tore off the front right tire on Taylor's 2009 Cadillac Escalade, and he drove about two miles on the axle before stopping, authorities said.

BASKETBALL

Tim Niles scored 23 points and Lamar Wilbern added 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Emporia State to a 101-81 win over Livin The Dream at Emporia.
