Goddard product Whitney Berry scored on a header and then again on a penalty kick in a shootout to lead Kansas to a win over Texas Tech in the play-in game for the Big 12 Tournament at San Antonio. KU goalkeeper Kat Liebetrau's save on Tech's Maggie Fete — the Red Raiders' fifth shooter — sealed the victory, which officially goes in the books as a 1-1 tie.
The Jayhawks will take on top-seeded Missouri on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
GOLF
Junior Adin Stromgren led the Wichita State women with an even-par 72 in the opening round to tie for fourth overall and help put the Shockers in fifth place at the Pinehurst Classic in Pinehurst, N.C.
FOOTBALL
Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday's game against Vanderbilt after the star linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory.
Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.
Spikes is fourth on the team with 42 tackles and has three sacks.
BASKETBALL
Caleb Walker led the Butler Community College men with 18 points and five rebounds in a 114-54 win over the Friends junior varsity at El Dorado.
