Eighth-ranked Emporia State defeated No. 7 Washburn 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 26-28, 15-13 on Friday night in front of a season-high crowd of 2,165 in Emporia. Brittney Miller led the Hornets with 20 kills and All-American Arica Shepard added 17 kills and 21 digs for ESU. Mollie Lacy led the Ichabods with 18 kills.
RUNNING
The Wichita Marathon will be held Sunday with a course that again starts in Derby and ends in Old Town Square. The race begins at 8 a.m.
A new feature this year is the Mayor's 5K Challenge. Every racer who beats Mayor Carl Brewer in the race will receive a T-shirt. That race will start and end in Old Town Square.
Rodeo
The Professional Bull Riders tour will stop at Intrust Bank Arena on May 7-8. The PBR event will feature many of the top 40 bull riders in the world. The riders compete weekly for a chance to win the PBR World Championship, which is worth $1 million.

Wichita State begins its fall series at 1 p.m. today at Eck Stadium. Admission is can of food for the Kansas Food Bank. Assistant coach Jim Thomas will coach the Black team. Volunteer assistant coach Brandon Hall will coach the Gold team.

Wichita State women's player Alicia Sanchez will miss at least the non-conference schedule due to personal reasons, coach Jody Adams announced. Sanchez, a junior guard from Peoria, Ariz., is expected to return in January.

Chad Campbell closed with an eagle on the par-5 ninth for a 9-under 62 and a share of the second-round lead Friday with Troy Matteson in the PGA Tour's Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.
* Dan Forsman had six straight en route to an 8-under 64 and a one-stroke lead in the Champions Tour's Administaff Small Business Classic at The Woodlands, Texas.
* Italy's Francesco Molinari matched the best halfway total on the European tour this season, following his opening 63 with a 66 to take a one-stroke lead in the Portugal Masters at 15-under 129.
SOCCER
Emilly Cressy scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to lift the Kansas women to a 2-1 win over Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. Goddard product and Kansas freshman Whitney Berry scored the other goal for the Jayhawks, who picked up their first road win in Big 12 play.
MOTORSPORTS
Kyle Busch shrugged off walking pneumonia to dominate the Nationwide Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., picking up his seventh victory of the year to extend his points lead over Carl Edwards with four races remaining.
Mike Bliss was second, followed by Dave Blaney and Brian Vickers. Edwards finished fifth to drop 195 points behind Busch.
Gymnastics
In shades of the Beijing Olympics, Bridget Sloan edged a younger teammate for the world gymnastics championships Friday in London. It came down to the very last skill of the night, with Rebecca Bross falling on her final tumbling pass to drop to second place and give Sloan the title. Sloan, the lone holdover from the U.S. team that won the silver medal in Beijing, finished with 57.825 points. Bross, competing at her first world championships after turning 16 in July, scored 57.775 points.
