July 31 at 12:07 a.m. Former Kansas State guard Denis Clemente has signed a one-year contract with Israeli team Maccabi Rishon LeZion, according to the Manhattan Mercury. Clemente signed a free-agent deal with the Charlotte Bobcats in June and averaged 1.3 points and 0.5 assists on their summer-league team.

Coffman's 148 total (75-63) was four shots better than first alternate Charlie Saxon of Tulsa. Wichita's Spencer Christian (71-72--143) was the second alternate. The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay in Tacoma, Wash.

Before the move became official, Titans coach Jeff Fisher voiced his displeasure with Kiffin on Saturday to the Tennessean newspaper, saying the new USC coach hadn't made the customary courtesy phone call to tell the NFL team he was interested in hiring Pola. Tennessee Titans training camp opens in a week. Pola is a former USC player and assistant coach and so is Fisher. Kiffin issued a statement Saturday saying he first spoke to Pola on Friday, and then called Fisher after Pola called him back.

He ran of Kansas' national champion cross country team in 1953 and was a member of a 4-mile relay team when it set an American record. He is a member of the KU Hall of Fame.

Dontavius Jackson, listed as a sophomore tailback, and sophomore split end Tavarres King were in a Chevrolet Avalanche stopped on a campus road just before 3 a.m., UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson said. Jackson, 20, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and other motor vehicle offenses. King, 19, was charged with underaged possession of alcohol as were two other passengers inside the Chevrolet.
