Wichita police asked Wednesday for the public's help in finding a pregnant 14-year-old girl who has been missing from her southwest Wichita home for nearly a week.
Capt. Randy Landen said Chelsea Brooks, who is nine months pregnant, was last seen by friends Friday night at Skate South, 1900 E. MacArthur.
"We have no indications of foul play, but because she is nine months pregnant, we are concerned about her and the baby," he said.
"It is classified as a runaway case, but we're not discounting any other possibility. Everybody in her family is very worried about her, obviously."
Chelsea, who was a student at Allison Middle School last year, has brown eyes and light brown hair, is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. She was wearing blue slacks and a red shirt when last seen by friends about 8 p.m. Friday. Landen said he doesn't know how she left the skating center.
Landen said detectives have talked to several of Chelsea's friends, including the father of the baby, but have been unable to find out where she might be. He said she did not have a history of running away from home.
Chelsea was reported missing by her family on Friday, Landen said, and detectives decided to take their case public Wednesday because they were fearful that should could give birth any day.
"We have kids run away all the time, but it's unusual for us to have a 14-year-old who is nine months pregnant," he said.
Anyone who knows Chelsea's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
