IRS site can help find charitable deductions
Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.
For recent You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.
The record: An IRS list of organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions.
Why you'd want it: To verify whether you can deduct your gift to a certain nonprofit organization.
Where you get the record: Go to www.irs.gov/charities/ and click on "search for charities" on the left side.
How much it will cost: The information is free.
