Web site tracks status of deficient bridges

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives. For recent You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The record: Information about structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridges on the state's highway system. Bridges are listed by county.

Why you'd want them: To learn more about bridges in Kansas. Reports have been updated through August, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation's Web site.

Where you get the records:

From the Kansas Department of Transportation's Web site, www.ksdot.org. Click on the "Kansas Bridge Information" link and then on "Obsolete or Deficient Bridges on the State Highway System."

How much it will cost: The information is free.
