Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.
For recent You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.
The record: Statistics about liquor taxes collected by the Kansas Department of Revenue
Why you'd want them: To learn more about how much money is paid in liquor taxes. The Revenue Department keeps statistics by fiscal year going back to 2001. Taxes are broken out by type of alcohol, such as beer, wine and spirits.
Where you get the records: From the Revenue Department's Web site: www.ksrevenue.org.
Click on the "Statistics" link from the menu on the left and then on "Liquor Tax Receipts."
How much it will cost: The information is free.
