STATE VS. CHEEVER
The trial: Scott Cheever faced seven criminal charges, including capital murder in the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels on Jan. 19, 2005. Cheever, 26, could face the death penalty if convicted. He is also charged with attempted capital murder of four law enforcement officers, manufacturing methamphetamine and criminal possession of a firearm. Where: Greenwood County Courthouse, Eureka.
