For the first time in Collegiate's 11 wins this season, the performance of the other quarterback had a lot to do with a fast start and a lopsided score.
Sure, Collegiate's own signal caller, Blake Jablonski, contributed plenty to a 48-point first half that led to a running clock in the second.
But the Spartans gained momentum by intercepting Hillsboro's Jacob Fish five times in the first half on the way to a 48-0 win in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs at Collegiate.
The Spartans will host Scott City next week in the quarterfinals.
Two of Fish's interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Two more led to offensive scores for Collegiate, which scored six times in the first half on one-play drives or interception returns.
In addition to his two touchdown receptions, Collegiate receiver Brett LeMaster returned a touchdown for a score and had 121 receiving yards before halftime. Tre Bailey also caught two touchdowns in the first half, when Jablonski passed for 315 yards and completed 12 of 17 passes.
The Spartans have outscored their first two opponents in the 3A playoffs, including Garden Plain, 99-20, with Jablonski throwing for more than 500 yards and 11 touchdowns.
