The Eagle's All-State boys team

JORDAN CYPHERS

6-4 senior

Wichita Southeast

Stats: Cyphers averaged 21.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals. He was an especially dangerous offensive player and teams tried to stop him with double teams or gimmick defenses like a box-and-one. But Cyphers remained a threat to score inside, hit the mid-range jumper and made threes. He shot 54 percent from the field and led Southeast to the Class 6A title and a 23-2 record.

College: Utah

NCAA men's tournament pick: Kansas

Memorable moment: "I'd have to say my first varsity game. I was a sophomore, we played (Wichita) East, a sold-out crowd, at Southeast. I was so nervous. I'm out there, I hit my first shot and I felt like I belonged."

Role model: "My dad, Mike, is. I want to be just like him -- a real man, take care of his family, raise his kids and always be there."

Favorite pastime besides basketball: "I hang out with my friends, crack jokes. We might go to each other's house, talk, go to the movies."

Coach Carl Taylor: "Jordan leads by example. He's not a vocal person. He's our leading scorer, and the kids looked to him.... He can score. You saw the deep threes he took. I have no problem with him taking them.... The kids look to him to score, and whenever he's open, they try to get him the ball."

COLE GRADDY

6-3 senior

Wichita Trinity

Stats: Graddy led Trinity in scoring (22.7 points), rebounding (6.0), assists (6.0) and steals (3.0). Graddy, who has a sweet jumper, shot 56 percent from the field, 41 percent from three and made 60 threes. He scored 1,058 points in two years at Trinity. Graddy led Trinity to its first Class 3A championship and a 24-2 record.

College: Undecided.

NCAA men's tournament pick: Duke

Memorable moment: "It's got to be winning state this year. It's the best feeling I've had. It's all the work over the past two seasons -- it feels great. I don't know how to describe it, it's being ecstatic and happy and all those other adjectives."

Role models: Mom (Alice) and Dad (David). "They have worked really hard to provide for my family, give me a roof over my head and food, and everything I ask for -- to an extent -- they're able to provide it for me."

Favorite pastime besides basketball: "I hang out with friends and be a normal kid. We play video games a lot. And I have a new puppy, Tessa, she's a wiener dog, a dachshund."

Coach David Swank: "What makes him special is he elevates everyone's game. He's unselfish, he passes the ball well, he creates a lot of easy shots for his teammates.... He's just an unbelievable shooter, an unbelievable pure shooter."

CLINTON MANN

6-7 senior

St. Thomas Aquinas

Stats: Mann led Aquinas with 18.6 points and 9.4 rebounds, and he shot 72 percent from the free-throw line and 52 percent overall. He created matchup problems offensively and defensively for opponents with his size and mobility. Offensively he could score out of the half-court set or in the open court.

College: Iowa State

NCAA men's tournament pick: North Carolina

Memorable moment: Going to the 5A tournament this season. "Just because Aquinas traditionally hasn't had a great basketball program, and we kind of turned it around in the last couple years."

Role models: "My role models would be my brothers (Nathan and Jestin) and my dad (Michael). My brothers played basketball in high school and (Nathan), he played at William and Mary.... They always taught me to work hard and not take anything for granted, and that there is always someone working harder than you."

Favorite pastime besides basketball: "Just hanging out with my friends. Hanging out, watching TV, talking. I like to lift weights, too."

Coach Sean Reilly: "The first half of the year he basically carried us. We had graduated five senior guards. He was the main one coming back and he carried us physically, scoring-wise, emotionally, until the players got experience."

JEFF REID

6-5 junior

Topeka Hayden

Stats: Reid averaged 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.1 blocks and shot 63 percent from two-point range, 37 percent from three. Despite his size, Reid played a shooting guard and was adept at getting his entire team involved. Led Hayden to the Class 4A title and a 25-1 record.

NCAA men's tournament pick: North Carolina

Memorable moment: "Definitely last weekend, winning a state championship. Everyone wants to do it in their lifetime, and I feel pretty special that it happened to me."

Role model: "Probably my brother Josh. I've always looked up to him. He played at K-State and he's helped me out with my decisions. And, my mom says I'm a lot like him."

Favorite pastime besides basketball: "I like to hunt -- coyotes, deer, turkey. Growing up in a small town (Brewster), that's what they do out there. I'll hunt antelope, deer."

Coach Ted Schuler: "He probably could have averaged more points a game, but there were games where he'd distribute and get his teammates involved.... When we needed a big shot or a big bucket, he knew the momentum of the game and it was time for him to make a play. He knew where his teammates were and he got them the ball at the right time to score."

TRAVIS RELEFORD

6-6 senior

Bishop Miege

Stats: Releford averaged 24.4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists. He can do just about anything offensively and defensively, but thrives on scoring in the open court. He's an exciting player with a diverse repertoire of dunks. He led Miege to a 19-3 record.

College: Kansas

NCAA men's tournament pick: Kansas

Memorable moment: "The year we went to Omaha, we had like one game, a Hy-Vee shootout game. It was just the setting, playing on the main court, being on the jumbo screen while we were playing and everyone was looking up after each play."

Role model: "I'm going to have to say my mom (Venita Vann). She encouraged me to do better by all the stuff she goes through."

Favorite pastime besides basketball: "I'd have to say it's hanging out with my friends, hanging out with girls, going to movies. I like comedies, funny movies."

Coach Rick Zych: "Travis' game is getting in the open floor. He usually covered the best offensive player on the other team. He's 6-6 and long-armed. He loves to play defense. He scores a lot of points in the open floor from steals. He's a slasher type on offense, and we put him on the block a lot. He's a big strong kid who loves to play defense and get up and down the floor."
