Greensburg Tornado

Baby among many owls sent to Raptor Center

Comments (0)

When Ken Lockwood, program director of the Eagle Valley Raptor Center at Cheney, read about people helping pets that survived the Greensburg tornado, he was moved to share another story of compassion for animals.

Since the storms, the raptor center has received several adult great horned owls, one juvenile great horned owl and the baby screech owl pictured here, he said in an e-mail.

"It is amazing it survived," Lockwood wrote. "What is even more amazing is that people care enough to help these birds with all the tragedy surrounding them."

Lockwood said the baby owl, about a week old, was "one wet and muddy mess" when the center received him.

Eagle Valley Raptor Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping injured and orphaned birds of prey return to the wild.
