— The Beaufort Water Festival is getting underway for a 59th year.

The 10-day festival opens Friday evening with an appearance by U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, a concert by the Parris Island Marine Band and a fireworks display in Beaufort.

The festival includes the traditional arts and crafts market by the city's downtown marina.

Other events include a concert by country artist Craig Morgan, a fishing tournament, a raft race and an air show.

There will also be a dragon boat race. The festival's closing weekend includes the blessing of the local fishing fleet.
