— The driver of a motorboat has been arrested after a deadly collision with a sailboat that killed a young woman and injured two others on Seattle's Lake Washington, police said Thursday.

The 46-year-old man from the Seattle suburb of Renton was booked into King County Jail on investigation of homicide by motorcraft, said Drew Fowler, a spokesman with the Seattle Police Department.

Police have said they believe alcohol is involved in the crash. More charges may be pending as police investigate the Wednesday night collision, Fowler said.

The force of the collision between the 25-foot powerboat and 21-foot sailboat left a debris field about a half mile from shore from the Leschi neighborhood in southeast Seattle.

Three of the seven people on the sailboat were thrown in the water, including the woman who died, said Kyle Moore, a spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department. He said two others on the sailboat were taken to the hospital.

A man was in serious condition at the ICU at Harborview Medical Center on Thursday, said hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg. Another person was treated there and released.

Four people were on the 25-foot powerboat, Moore said. One woman suffered minor injuries.

No names were immediately released.

The crash was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Both boats are damaged but afloat.
