Commerce Bank parent sees small quarterly gain

The holding company of Commerce Bank said Tuesday it earned a penny more per share in the second quarter of 2014.

Commerce Bancshares said in a news release that its earnings for the quarter ended June 30 were 70 cents a share on net income of $66.5 million, compared with earnings of 69 cents a share on $65.8 million in net income in the same quarter last year.

For the first half of the year, earnings were $1.37 a share on net income of $130.8 million compared with earnings of $1.32 a share on net income of $126.8 million in the first six months of 2013.

Commerce also said total non-performing assets, foreclosed real estate and past-due loan totals were down compared with the second quarter of 2013.
