A mother is in custody after leaving her approximately 18-month-old child in the hallway of a South Broadway hotel for about two hours unattended on Sunday morning, Wichita police Lt. Dan East said Monday.

At 8:40 a.m. Sunday, an officer was dispatched to Value Place, 4665 S. Broadway, where an employee reported hearing a child crying in the hallway.

The officer located the mother, 28, in another room at the hotel, and arrested her on an outstanding warrant.

The child was taken into police protective custody.
