Burglar held for police at gunpoint at south Wichita home

Someone broke into their late parents’ home in south Wichita, and they had a feeling they’d be back.

So a man and woman were waiting when a woman came through an unlocked side door of the house on South Pattie early Thursday morning, police said.

The man held the 26-year-old intruder at gunpoint until police arrived shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday in the 4600 block of South Pattie, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That’s northwest of Hydraulic and 47th Street South.

Police are still looking for a second suspect who likely never entered the house before the first was caught. Family members think the second suspect is a 44-year-old man who befriended their parents before they died.

The same house had been burglarized on June 27, Nolte said.
