A Garden City man pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend.

William Andrew Shank, 25, pleaded guilty in Thomas County District Court to first-degree murder, aggravated arson and aggravated burglary, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a news release.

The charges come from the death of Teri L. Morris, 27. Firefighters found her body Feb. 9, 2013, just inside the front door of her residence in Colby when they responded to a house fire.

She had sustained stab wounds, according to court records.

Shank, Morris and their child had previously lived in North Platte, Neb.

He is set for sentencing on Sept. 10.
