United flight diverted to Wichita

Passengers on-board a United flight made an unexpected stop in Wichita on Sunday night. (June 29, 2014)

Here is a statement from United spokeswoman Christen David:

“The flight diverted to Wichita, Kansas, after the emergency evacuation slide accidentally deployed. No one was injured and the flight landed safely. We flew in another aircraft to resume the flight and get our customers to their final destination as quickly as possible.”

-- To correct inaccurate reports: All passengers were seated at the time the slide deployed. A passenger did not attempt to open the door in flight.

-- United flight 1463 from Chicago O’Hare to Orange County, California

-- The flight took off from Chicago at 8:18 p.m. CT. It landed in Wichita at 10:36 p.m. local time.

-- Boeing 737-700 with 96 passengers and 5 crew members on board

-- Our maintenance team will inspect the aircraft to determine what happened.

-- We provided hotel accommodations to our customers. The new flight is scheduled to depart Wichita on Monday morning.
