Wingnuts strike early, beat Saltdogs

The Wingnuts built an early lead and held off the Saltdogs 7-4 on Friday night in Lincoln, Neb.

Ryan Khoury started the game with a walk, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent Clevlen.

The Wingnuts made it 5-0 in the second. J.T. Wise hit a leadoff homer. David Amberson doubled with one out and scored on a single by Chris McClendon. Khoury reached on a fielder’s choice and an error allowed McClendon to go to third on the play Carlos Testa hit a sacrifice fly, then Khoury stole second and scored on a single by Jake Kahaulelio.

In the third, Chris McMurray and Wise reached by on errors. McMurray scored on a single by McClendon and Wise scored when Khoury was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Wingnuts starter Tim Brown took a shutout into the seventh before tiring.
