If it weren’t so early in the evening, patrons of The Cashew Thursday might have thought they had a bit much to drink when a big yellow bird walked in the door.

But it was only a man in a big yellow cape and feathered hat.

The man allegedly broke into the Kansas City Costume Co. about 8:45 p.m. Thursday and grabbed the costume, according to Sgt. Kari Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

“He got into the costume shop, took the costume and then walked down the street to the bar,” Thompson said. “Several witnesses saw this and called. We located him at the bar and arrested him.

“He was observed wearing a yellow cape or coat with a hat with feathers.”

When he got inside The Cashew, at 20th and Grand, he had a seat at the bar, Thompson said.

The sign outside the bar Thursday? “Wing night.”
