Red Cross plans blood drive for July Fourth weekend

While Wichita residents celebrate the red, white and blue on the July 4 weekend, the Red Cross is inviting blood donors to its Red, White and YOU drive.

The blood drive is July 3 to July 5 at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Donors will receive a free pass to the zoo, discounted admission for family members, a commemorative T-shirt, coupons for free food and a chance to win a $1,200 necklace from Mike Seltzer Jewelers.

Blood donations decline during the summer as school ends and people take vacations, according to the Red Cross. The blood drive will help ensure blood is available on hospital shelves throughout the summer.

Donors can make individual appointments by calling 800-RED-CROSS, or visiting redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are also accepted.
