Looking to shore up the first base position, the Wingnuts on Wednesday traded for Trevor Whyte, who was hitting .330 for the Brownsville (Texas) Charros in the United League, an independent baseball league.

Brownsville will receive a player to be named later.

Whyte, 24, had two home runs and 21 RBIs for Brownsville. He is in his fourth year of independent baseball. He played collegiately at Saddleback Junior College in California and his final two seasons at UC Santa Barbara.

The Wranglers' J.T. Wise was named American Association player of the week after going 10 for 26 in six games.
