Jack Sock’s debut in singles at Wimbledon was a success.

Sock defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France in four sets Tuesday.

Sock dropped the first set 7-6, losing the tiebreaker 7-5. But he bounced back to win sets 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4.

Sock, a four-time Kansas Class 6A champion at Blue Valley North, has played in each of the other tennis majors.

Sock, who is not seeded, will play No. 8 Milos Raonic of Canada in the second round.
