Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued blue-green algae warnings and advisories for seven lakes, none in the Wichita area.

Blue-green algae is the common term for cyanobacteria.

KDHE said warnings are effective for Marion Reservoir in Marion County; Memorial Park Lake in Barton County; and South Park Lake in Johnson County. A warning means high levels of blue-green algae have been detected and direct contact, such as wading, skiing and swimming, should be prohibited.

The agency also issued advisories for the following Kansas lakes: Lake Warnock in Atchison County; Logan City Lake in Phillips County; Milford Lake in Clay, Geary and Dickinson counties; and Old Herington Lake in Dickinson County. An advisory means blue-green algae have been detected and a hazardous condition exists. Direct contact with untreated lake water, KDHE said, is strongly discouraged for humans and animals.

Up-to-date information on lake conditions is available by calling 855-422-5253.
