Wichita State baseball recruit signs with Texas

Cowley College pitcher Storm Rynard signed with the Texas Rangers, according to Wichita State coaches.

Rynard, from Raymore, Mo., signed with Wichita State in April. Texas picked him in the 34th round of the amateur draft earlier this month. He accepted a signing bonus of $100,000, according to WSU coach Todd Butler.

Rynard, a 6-foot-1 right-hander, played one season at Cowley and went 5-2 with a 6.38 ERA. He struck out 44 and walked 16 in 42 1/3 innings. His loss is not a surprise to Butler, who said last week that Rynard was negotiating with the Rangers.

He committed to Arkansas, where Butler worked as an assistant coach, while in high school at Raymore-Peculiar. He graduated a year early in order to enter the 2013 draft, but was not selected after a disappointing spring and decided to go to a junior college.

Rynard is the only Shocker recruit to decide on the pros over college. Six other signees have until July 18 to make their decision.

Third baseman Chase Rader, from Coffeyville Community College, went to Detroit in the 16th round. Cincinnati grabbed pitcher Isaac Anderson, from the College of Southern Idaho, in the 19th round. Pitcher Sam Hilliard, from Crowder (Mo.) College, went in the 31st round to Minnesota. Florida took pitcher Chase Williams, of Eastern Oklahoma State, in the 37th round. High school athletes Keenan Eaton, an outfielder from Parker, Colo., and Bishop Carroll catcher Taylor Sanagorski went in the 39th round; Eaton to Philadelphia and Sanagorski to the Tigers.
