A man and woman were sitting on the front porch Wednesday night when someone pulled up in the driveway and got out carrying a rifle, police said.

The 42-year-old man sitting on the porch took off running, leaving the 30-year-old woman alone to deal with the armed man, Lt. Dan East said. The visitor hit the woman in the face and the arm with the rifle, demanding money.

He then pulled her inside the house in the 1700 block of South Palisade at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. That’s southeast of Harry and McLean.

Once inside, the man took a small amount of money and left, driving south on Palisade, East said. The suspect is a white man in his 30s who is about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He had brown hair and wore a plaid green shirt and blue jeans.

He was driving a green Jeep Cherokee.
