Police are investigating a shooting incident on Grove northeast of downtown Wichita early Thursday morning.

Two women came into the Walgreens at Central and Hillside shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday and reported that two men they did not know fired three shots at them while they were driving south in the 600 block of North Grove, Lt. Dan East said. That’s just north of Central and a few blocks east of I-135.

None of the bullets struck their vehicle and the women, ages 23 and 24, were not hurt.

“It’s unclear if they were the intended target,” East said. “It’s very fortunate they weren’t injured.”

Officers responding to the scene found a witness who reported seeing one person shooting south at someone else, according to a police document. The shooter then ran south after firing.

Officers found two shell casings north of where the women reported being fired upon. No description of of the suspected shooter’s appearance has been released.
