The Land Report magazine has named last year’s $50 million auction of the 33,667-acre Hager farm and ranch, including machinery, in western Kansas as its 2013 Agriculture Deal of the Year.

The land in 54 separate tracts sprawled across Wichita, Hamilton, Greeley, Meade, Logan and Gove counties. It was owned by Walt and Virginia Hager, who lived in South Dakota, but operated the Kansas farms and ranches. It was sold in November by Hall and Hall Auctions.

The land went to 22 different individuals, including local landowners and buyers from Louisiana, Texas, Nebraska and Colorado.

The Land Report also recognized major deals last year for conservation, timber and ranchland transactions.
