A trip outside with the dog turned into something more complicated for a 34-year-old man Tuesday night, and by the time the dust settled he was on his way to jail.

A man and two women were sitting outside on the front porch of an apartment building in the 1300 block of North Broadway at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when another tenant came outside with his dog, Lt. Dan East said. One of the women began criticizing the dog owner over his treatment of the animal.

The dog owner went back into his apartment and returned with a shotgun, which he pointed at the people sitting on the porch, East said. He then ran back into his apartment.

Police were called; officers arrived and arrested the dog owner for threatening the others with a gun, East said. Police documents contained no details about the dog’s treatment that prompted the woman to complain.
