Sedgwick County Zoo to hold Ape Awareness Weekend

The Sedgwick County Zoo is encouraging residents to go ape Friday and Saturday at a special event to raise awareness about gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans.

Ape Awareness Weekend will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The event will feature zookeeper chats and other activities geared to teach people more about apes.

Chats will occur at these times and locations:

• 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – Gorillas at The Downing Gorilla Forest indoor area

• 1 and 2:15 p.m. – Orangutans at Koch Orangutan and Chimpanzee Habitat

• 1:45 and 2:45 p.m. – Chimpanzees at Koch Orangutan and Chimpanzee Habitat

Regular zoo admission applies to the event, and zoo members can get in free with their card and a photo ID. Children under age 2 get in free.

Tickets for children ages 3 to 11 are $8.95. Admission for people 12 to 61 is $13.95, and admission for people 62 and older is $11.95.
