A 14-year-old boy who went missing in south Wichita around noon Friday has been found, a 911 emergency dispatcher said.

Wichita police said Kamal Mohamed was reported missing by his mother and last seen in the 4200 block of South Hydraulic. There was some concern for his welfare, police said via Facebook on Friday, because Kamal has poor eyesight and was not wearing glasses when he left home. He is from Somalia, police said.

The emergency dispatcher said around 6 p.m. that the boy was found safe.

Wichita police posted about Kamal’s disappearance shortly before 5 p.m. Friday on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. The agency thanked the public for helping to locate the child about an hour later, saying: “Social media is a powerful tool because of the citizens that help us out.”
