Police are investigating what appears to have been two drive-by shootings a short distance apart early Friday morning in north Wichita.

A home owner woke up at about 3:50 a.m. to the sound of four or five gun shots in the 3000 block of Wellington Place on Friday, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That’s a few blocks west of Broadway and 29th Street North.

When he went to investigate, the resident discovered his house and cars had been struck by bullets, Nolte said. Officers who came to investigate the report discovered another house had been fired on down the block.

There were at least six people in one of the houses and three in the other, Nolte said.

“No one was hit,” he said. “The bullets that hit one of the homes did go through the wall into a bedroom and narrowly missed some of the people staying there.”

Officers were unable to find anyone who saw the shooter or shooters, Nolte said.

“Other than hearing the gunshots, no one saw anything,” he said.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Tips can be submitted at www.wichitacrimestoppers.com or by texting TIP217, then the message, to CRIMES (274637).
