Maize superintendent Doug Powers returned to work part-time this week as he continues to recuperate from surgery to address coronary blockages, district officials said.

Powers, who has been on medical leave since mid-May, “is transitioning back to his regular duties,” said district spokeswoman Lori O’Toole Buselt. He was in contact with district personnel during his leave, she said, but associate superintendent Marsha Beard assumed his duties during his absence.
