Local indie reading
Watermark Books & Cafe is starting a Local Literary Festival to give local independently published authors a forum for their work and a place to create community. The festival will be held quarterly, and the first will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the bookstore at 4701 E. Douglas. Featured authors are E.D.E. Bell (“Spireseeker” and “The Taking of Stonecrop”), Susanne Lambdin (“Morbid Hearts” and “Forsaken Hearts”), Bonnie Belmudes (“Gus and Gunther” series) and Tracy Dunn (“Alex & the Immortals”).
The Wichita Children’s Theatre & Dance Center will have three picnic theater shows this summer, starting with “Three Billy Goats Gruff” this Friday and June 20. The “picnic” part means either a cookie show ($6) or a pizza show ($7.50). Cookie shows are at 10 a.m., and pizza shows are at noon (pizza served at 11:30 a.m.) and 6:30 p.m. (pizza served at 6). The two other shows will be “Little Red Hen” on June 26 and 27 and “Three Little Pigs” on July 10, 11 and 18. The theater is at 201 S. Lulu. Call 316-262-2282 for reservations (necessary if you plan to eat pizza).
