Festival food

Fried pickles

Three stars out of four

Where is it? Hoopingarner’s Philly Steak, Century II food court

What is it? While most fried pickles you buy are in thin-chip form, with too much breading for available pickle, these fried pickles are spears, so you get plenty of meaty pickle inside. The order comes with five spears lightly breaded and crispy-fried – not an ounce of sogginess here. The pickles don’t even drip, and in fact are a tad tough. They come with ranch dressing for dipping, perfectly complementing the pickles’ tang.

How much is it? $6

Most events are included with the cost of a Riverfest button unless otherwise noted. Some events have changed since the Riverfest brochure was published. Go to www.wichitariverfest.com for updates.
