Housekeeper, Hyatt Regency Wichita
Munozs regular job is taking care of the Hyatts highest-paying customers. Shes assigned to VIP suites on the hotels top floor.
But it was how she cared for a regular family in distress that earned her a Spirit of Hospitality Award from the Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau last month. The family was traveling through Kansas, returning from vacation in Colorado, when they were involved in a car accident. The father and five children escaped with minor injuries; the mother was airlifted to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
The father and children spent several weeks camped out in a hospitality suite at the hotel, said Alysha Conner, the Hyatts executive housekeeper.
Gladis just took exceptional care of them. She developed a relationship with them and was really great with the kids, who were naturally terrified and not familiar with the area, Conner said.
The mother also spent time at the hotel after her release from the hospital, until doctors said she was ready to travel.
Gladis was her nurse, Conner said. She just took her everything she needed.
Munoz, who is from Guatemala, has worked at the hotel since 2010. In a letter nominating Munoz for an in-house award given by the hotel, Conner said she happily works extra hours, never calls in sick and maintains a 98 percent average on inspections while taking care of 15 to 20 rooms a day.
She takes exceptional care of our VIPs, Conner said.
Munoz and her husband have a son. Her hobby is cleaning the church where her husband preaches, Conner said.
