Two Labette County residents died in a head-on collision Wednesday morning, south of Parsons.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said that vehicles driven by Timothy P. Schartz, 64, and Misty R. Chalker, 41, crashed shortly before 9 a.m. along U-59, about 4 miles north of the highway’s junction with U-160.

Schartz’s 2011 GMC Terrain SUV was northbound on the highway when it crossed the center line for “unknown reasons” and struck Chalker’s 2013 Ford Fusion, KHP said in a crash report; Chalker was southbound on U-59 at the time.

Schartz was a resident of Altamont, KHP said. Chalker lived in Parsons.

Parsons is located in the southeast corner of Kansas, about 130 miles east of Wichita.
