A small fire in Newman University’s Heimerman Science Center has been extinguished Monday morning, Newman officials said.

Smoke was reported coming from the campus around 8:15 a.m. Monday, and firefighters were dispatched to determine the cause.

Newman’s Twitter page said the fire was caused by a faulty motor in a professor’s second-floor office.

No one was injured in the fire.

Officials did not have a damage estimate as of 9:30 a.m. Monday.
