Black Hills Energy has named former Missouri utility executive Todd Jacobs as general manager to lead its Kansas natural gas operations beginning June 2.

Jacobs is responsible for Black Hill’s field operations, service levels, financial performance, strategic development and customer relations. He will be based in Lawrence.

For the previous eight years, Jacobs was a senior manager with Kansas City-based Missouri Gas Energy, most recently as associate general counsel. At MGE, he helped lead the natural gas utility’s regulatory and environmental compliance activities, legislative and lobbying efforts, community partnerships and media relations.

Prior to MGE, Jacobs was an associate attorney with a Kansas City law firm from 2000 to 2003, and an assistant county prosecutor for Jackson County, Mo., from 2004 to 2006. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years and was honorably discharged as a captain.

Black Hills, based in Rapid City, S.D., serves 112,000 natural gas customers in 64 Kansas communities, including Wichita.
