Todd Tiahrt is expected to announce Thursday whether he plans to run for his former congressional seat in the 4th District, according to two sources.

Tiahrt, who served eight terms in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2011, has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. at the Kansas Aviation Museum, 3350 S. George Washington Blvd.

Monday is the filing deadline for the Aug. 5 primary.

A 4th District Republican race would pit Tiahrt against Rep. Mike Pompeo. The 4th includes Wichita.

Tiahrt, who lives in Goddard, couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday.

Pompeo has represented the 4th District since winning the 2010 election after Tiahrt chose to run for a U.S. Senate seat. Tiahrt lost in the primary to Jerry Moran, who went on to win the general election.

Pompeo announced in January that he planned to run for his seat again. He has $2.1 million cash in his campaign fund, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
